Admiring the Breckenridge Snow Sculptures

Posted by Jason Hussong on Monday, January 30, 2012,
I have lived in Colorado for nearly twelve years. But despite all of the time I've spent exploring my great state, I have barely had time to scratch the surface on all of the amazing things to see and do. I took care of knocking two items off my to-do list this weekend with my first-ever trip to Breckenridge to see the 22nd annual International Snow Sculpture Championships.
It was early, but traffic was already plugging up Interstate 70 into the mountains. Chugging a...

Touring Denver's Newest Art Museum

Posted by Jason Hussong on Monday, November 21, 2011,
I wasn't sure of what to expect, as I walked through the doors of the Clyfford Still Museum. After much fanfare, news coverage, and general hoopla, I was about to walk through the doors of Denver's newest museum on its opening weekend. I had been planning this visit for nearly a year - ever since I heard about the opening date - and was now concerned I might be let down after so much buildup. I worried I'd experience that all-too-familiar feeling of being let down ...

Bidding Adieu to King Tut

Posted by Jason Hussong on Thursday, January 13, 2011,

“Can you see anything?” asked the fifth Earl of Carnarvon.

“Yes, wonderful things!” his companion exclaimed.

In November, 1922, Egyptian King Tutankhamun’s tomb was discovered in the Valley of the Kings. The find is credited to Howard Carter, a London-born archaeologist, but a local worker is actually the person who accidentally uncovered the first step leading down to the vault.

While standing in the King Tut exhibit at the Denver Art Museum, audio guide...

A Ramble Through Denver's Museum of Contemporary Art

Posted by Jason Hussong on Monday, November 15, 2010,
I can't remember where, but I recently read about a proposed project by Christo and Jeanne-Claude - the couple who did The Gates exhibit in Central Park - to drape nearly six miles of the Arkansas River in Colorado in a silvery fabric. A lot of people are upset by the proposal and the possible environmental impact it could have on the area. They are worried that it could cause lasting problems for the river, as well as the surrounding area, and the wildlife that rely...

The Kirkland Museum of Fine & Decorative Art

Posted by Jason Hussong on Friday, January 29, 2010,
After living in Denver for over nine years I was pretty sure that I knew of most of the interesting spots around town, particularly the ones of a touristy nature. Sure, I may not necessarily be in on the cool and trendy bars, particularly since that's not my cup of tea, but I figured I knew of all the major museums and so forth. Well, a few months ago a friend of mine started interning at the Kirkland Museum of Fine and Decorative Art and I was instantly corrected.

In all this time I had n...

The Byers-Evans House

Posted by Jason Hussong on Friday, October 16, 2009,
When I finished talking on the travel panel in downtown Denver with the Public Relations Society of America I felt motivated to go out and do something. Here I had just exchanged a lot of good travel ideas with some top notch people and I wanted to get out and do and see something. I left Maggiano's on the 16th Street Mall though with every intention of just heading back to my car though, until I remembered the Byers-Evans House that is.

I've been wanting to get a tour of the house wher...

The Denver Art Museum

Posted by Jason Hussong on Tuesday, August 18, 2009,
After doing my thing at the DNC and Presidential Experience on Friday, I had some time to kill so I decided to do something that I had been meaning to do for quite some time...I finally visited the expansion to the Denver Art Museum, the Hamilton Building.

The expansion was designed by architect Daniel Libeskind. Libeskind is the same architect that designed the Jewish Museum in Berlin, Germany and is also doing the new World Trade Center complex in New York City. The rest of hi...

The Santa Fe Art Walk

Posted by Jason Hussong on Tuesday, August 18, 2009,
Last night I went with some friends to do the First Friday Art Walk along Santa Fe Drive in Denver. Apparently the first Friday of each month this happens in different spots with different galleries around town.

This was something I had heard of before, but never really took advantage of until a friend texted me yesterday asking if I wanted to go.

I was particularly impressed with a lot of the art, especially the Kanon Collective (right), although there certainly was a fair amount of ...

Picture Canyon and the Comanche National Grasslands

Posted by Jason Hussong on Tuesday, August 18, 2009,
The Comanche National Grasslands in southeast Colorado is worth the drive to hike and enjoy one of the four canyons in the area. Historical markers from the Santa Fe Trail are also nearby.

After our trip to Oklahoma, my friend and I made our way up to Colorado on some dirt roads to check out the Picture Canyon, of which we only knew from a name on on map we were given at Clayton Lake State Park in New Mexico. But, the name piqued our interested enough to make the journey to Baca County, ...
