The Sydney Opera House

It's easy to identify a place by a particular building or landmark. For instance, Egypt will always be identified with the pyramids or France with the Eiffel Tower. The very same can be said for Sydney, Australia with the Sydney Opera House as one will forever be linked with the

other. As such, when I arrived in Sydney, I made straight for the second-most photographed building in the world, the Taj Mahal being the first, to see what all the fuss was about.

Antarctica ~ 2004

I'm hesitant to discuss Antarctica as it's the most beautiful place I've ever been and an influx of an additional amount of tourism can do harm to this fragile environment. On the other hand though,

it is the singular most spectacular place I've ever visited and one that any person should snatch the opportunity to experience. Never before and not since have I seen such spectacular beauty and wildlife that's actually given me pause to consider a job there.

New Zealand's Yellow-eyed Penguins

One of the big reasons why I wanted to travel to New Zealand's south island was to see the endangered Yellow-eyed penguin. I had become so familiar with the different species of penguins through my travels to Antarctica that when I read about this one, I knew I had to see it. And it was well worth the trouble.

The Cliffs of Moher

I was tired from a long flight from Chicago's O'Hare airport to Ireland's Shannon airport, so I was quite happy for the opportunity to take a nap after checking into my hotel with a couple of friends.

It didn't take long to pop back awake though and hit the road. I was in another country, my first in a few years time, and I was ready to get out and see some sites.
