I had a fantastic year of travel. It was probably one of the best ever for me. And with it came recognition as one of the best travel blogs of 2011 by Washington Flyer. To sum up my annual adventures in a single story is like writing about your own year, everything that has happened to you - all of the ups and downs and round and rounds - in just a couple of pages. It isn't easy. But for that opportunity, looking back on my year, I am most certainly thankful.

Two Weeks of Awesomeness ~ Counting Counties
Posted by Jason Hussong on Thursday, February 10, 2011,
For years now, I've been counting all of the counties I visit as I go through each state. I used to do this with the help of an online program, but quickly became disinterested in it and reverted to the old method of highlighting a printed map. It may not be the fanciest of ways, but it's what I like since I can do it while on the go. And I've done this for the last several trips I've taken, including the one for my book.
I've laid things out on my kitchen table, as I prepare to ... Continue reading ...
What Happens in Vegas, Doesn't Stay in Vegas
Posted by Jason Hussong on Monday, January 24, 2011,
The old saying says that what happens in Sin City stays there, but that's not exactly true. And I'm not talking that hilarious herpes line from the movie The Hangover. I came back with the flu and a cold that I've been battling all week, and I can only think it's because of the poor air circulation in the hotels and casinos in the cooler winter months. Unlike the hot summer when cool air is constantly pumped in to keep the places just above freezing, I found myself sweating w... Continue reading ...
The Ghost of Travels Future
Posted by Jason Hussong on Thursday, December 23, 2010,
I always have a difficult time in narrowing down where I'm going to travel each year. But, this year everything seems to be planning itself. I have three trips in the planning stages that I'm incredibly excited about, and that's only for the first half of 2011. I can only imagine what the rest of the year will bring, but if it's nothing beyond what I already have planned I can guarantee no one will hear a peep of a complaint out of me. I definitely feel much more fortunate to have t... Continue reading ...
Titanic in Las Vegas
Posted by Jason Hussong on Thursday, April 22, 2010,
I've been to Las Vegas so many times on vacation it's not even funny. But, when it comes down to seeing anything in the town, I'm really rather a novice to be quite honest. I can tell you exactly how to get to the bathroom in so many casinos, but I've never really done any of the touristy things beyond play some cards, eat some buffets, and see a couple of shows. So on this last trip to Vegas, I wanted to make sure to do something that I hadn't done before.
I spoke with my friend Bri... Continue reading ...
My Travel Tattoo
Posted by Jason Hussong on Monday, April 19, 2010,
When I was a child, and I mean young, I broached the subject with my father about getting a tattoo. He told me that if I did I wouldn't live under his roof any longer. Well, this wasn't really an issue as I've always been afraid of needles. I guess, as I look back on it now, the question was more along the lines of seeing how far I could push his limits, which were obviously not broad enough to allow his young child to get a tattoo - even if it said "I <3 Mom."
Well, for the past ... Continue reading ...
Vacation Nest Egg

My father is a frugal person. I guess that's something that's never been one of my better traits as I like to spend. I think I take more after my mother as she always told me that life is short and you never know when your last day could be so you may as well enjoy it. I think I probably took her a bit too literally as I could do with a bit of my father's sense, or cents in this instance, but that's just how I live life I guess.
When I was at the University of Minnesota I wanted to sa... Continue reading ...
The Lions at MGM
Posted by Jason Hussong on Sunday, September 20, 2009,
Generally my trips to Las Vegas revolve around playing cards and doing other such guy things. But, regardless of the trip, I always like to take a moment to pass by the lion exhibit at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino. I love stopping to appreciate the lions, a bit of wildlife in the hustle and bustle of Sin City, and doing something other than play cards for a minute or two.
I've traveled to Las Vegas so many times that I actually have to use my toes to count it. I know my nice in the ci... Continue reading ...
